Kicking off tourism for Cape Town’s north
News Feed brought to you by Cadiz Street Communications - http://www.cadizstreet.co.za
CAPE TOWN – Several representatives from tourist attractions and accommodation establishments, together with other interested role players, recently met for the first time to discuss the development of Cape Town’s northern region as a desirable leisure and business tourism destination.
“The aim of the meeting was to gauge the commitment of attendees to develop a common vision for the region that would enable it to attract its fair share of local and international tourism,” said Christelle Lesch, a founder of the Cape Town North Destination Marketing Initiative.
“Cape Town’s northern region, running east of the N7 and stretching from GrandWest Casino to the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch, definitely has what it takes to become an appealing tourist destination,” said Lesch. “The region boasts many attractions including an outstanding wine valley, a host of art and cultural venues, nature reserves, a casino, waterfront, Velodrome and race course. The area also offers a great network of adventure sports facilities, from tobogganing to single-track mountain bike routes, and the most spectacular views of Table Mountain.”
The Cape Point Route, which was successfully established within three years, was identified at the meeting as a useful case study for Cape Town North. The initiative has already engaged the organisation responsible for driving Cape Point Route’s success and has suggested that the northern region could follow a similar model to achieve comparable results.
“This would entail forming an association, publishing details on themed tourist routes and making marketing information available through a website, tourism offices and trade shows,” said Lesch. “We need to find synergy between each other and promote the region’s wide range of excellent tourism offerings through collective marketing projects and publicity.”
Some of the main role players in the area who attended the initiative’s meetings include GrandWest Casino, Cape Town Ostrich Ranch, Ruslamere Guest House, Durbanville Hills, Meerendal Wine Estate, Villa Pascal theatre, Die Boer theatre restaurant, Durbanville Boutique Wine Association, Tygerberg and Durbanville Nature Reserves, Cape Country Calls, Rust en Vrede and ACTN members.
The initiative has also engaged with role players individually to gauge their interest. These attractions include Clara Anna Fontein Private Game Reserve, Nitida Wine Estate and the Barnyard Theatre Willowbridge.
“This long overdue initiative needs to be all inclusive, transparent and fair, something which can become a legacy to serve our children and theirs in years to come. It needs to address questions such as, ‘What unites people in the region?’ ‘How do we best promote our northern area and develop its unique flavour of Cape Town?’’ said Russell Rathbone, owner of Ruslamere Guest House.
“Furthermore, it needs to constantly seek to achieve a common goal,” said Rathbone. “This would be to increase the number and frequency of visitors to the region and establish it as a desirable destination in its own right.”
There are plans to launch the Cape Town North Destination Marketing Initiative within the next few weeks. An invitation will be extended to all community role players, interested parties and tourist enterprises in the area to attend. For more information about the association, please contact Christelle on 0860- ROUTES / 0860 768 837 or visit www.CapeTownNorth.com.

Local News - Klink glasie op eie top-terroirs
News Feed brought to you by TygerBurger and Cadiz Street - http://www.terroirwineawards.co.za
’n Rekord 239 inskrywings is vanjaar ontvang.
